What is RegEx?

RegEx stands for the term “Regular Expressions”. RegEx is a universal syntax adopted across the text world that allows you to filter and match text based on a determined set of conditions.

Why is RegEx Useful for SEO?

RegEx is useful for SEO because it can help you filter and analyze data beyond the default settings of most SEO tools.

For example, you can use RegEx to segment out branded VS non-branded traffic in a Looker Studio report, or in Google Search Console to look at aggregate data from a hand-picked set of URLs.

Is RegEx useful for filtering SEO keywords?

Most tools allow only for broad match keyword targeting, or a single exact match query. RegEx filters allow you to look for multiple exact-match keywords in a single report.
