30x increase in organic traffic in two years – CAD Software Vendor
As digital marketing consultants to GrabCAD, Fire&Spark was responsible for growing the websites’ organic traffic to generate leads for their software. In two years, we grew the user base and organic search engine traffic 30x – from just under half-a-million page views to 14 million monthly page views and 626,000 registered users.
Fire&Spark developed a strategy centered on:
- Crafting user-generated content with optimized keyword targeting and meta-data for SEO
- Building a community and initiating conversations around user generated content
- Conversion rate optimization (CRO) to improve registered user growth

We decided early on to focus our efforts on growing the community section of the GrabCAD website with a CAD model library, tutorials and challenges. This allowed us to leverage the power of user generated content to fuel the site’s growth and rank for thousands of long-tail keywords related to CAD software.
The key to this strategy was optimizing the GrabCAD library for keywords used by mechanical engineers during their day-to-day workflow. We crafted a new user sign-up flow and CAD model upload process to prompt users for keyword-rich information about themselves and their CAD models. Thus, we ranked for an ever-increasing number of keywords relevant to our client’s software offering.
In two years, we grew the user base and organic search engine traffic 30x – from just under half-a-million page views to 14 million monthly page views and 626,000 registered users. GrabCAD later sold to Stratasys for around $100M.
